Ashburton’s first children-only Christmas shop was a big hit.
About 70 tamariki left Hakatere Marae on Sunday with bags and boxes of Christmas shopping.
They had formed queues to purchase items, then to have those items beautifully wrapped in preparation for going under family Christmas trees.
Excited to shop for their whanau, children had carefully chosen the right gift for their loved ones.
Marae chair Michelle Brett said the shop was great success.
‘‘You could see by the smiles on tamariki faces how much they enjoyed it,’’ Brett said.
Organisers’ thoughts have already turned to Christmas 2026 and building on the popularity of this year’s inaugural event.
