Car and vehicle enthusiasts are in for a treat with an annual car show and fun day at VTNZ on Sunday.

Ashburton Vintage Car Club is partnering with the vehicle inspection company on West St to hold the show, featuring classic and modern cars, a fire engine, tractors and motorbikes.

Funds raised will go to Mid Canterbury Cancer Society.

Club spokesperson Colin Sweetman said VTNZ was supplying the venue, prizes and fundraising barbecue.

Sweetman, who has had a passion for cars since he was 15, was looking forward to taking one or more of his cars.

‘‘It’s just a feel-good and relaxed show for people to bring their vehicle along, park it up and let people enjoy looking at them.

‘‘This is a bit of different show because it’s open to any vehicle.’’

Among the vehicles Sweetman is looking at taking is a Mustang or a Mercedes.

The 2014 Mustang comes with a red shiny paint job and a grunty engine.

The five-litre, V8 engine, convertible ‘‘has real soul’’, Sweetman said.

His 1965 Mercedes-Benz Fintail has been in his possession for 11 years.

The European car is in an original and excellent condition.

This model of the fintail is more refined and has smaller fins than its American cousin.

‘‘It’s a very reliable car and doesn’t require any work on it. The car is beautifully put together, when cars were properly made, 60 years ago,’’ Sweetman said.

On the day, there may also be a rare British 1953 Dennis Fay fire engine owned by a trust.

It served new with the Wellington Fire Brigade, and has a German-made Emits 100 foot ladder.
