The Floor NZ 2024 apprentice of the year awards held recently brought success for Skip-2-It Flooring Xtra floorer Dylan Mann.

He was named the runner up Floor NZ apprentice of the Year stage 2.

The 23-year-old has worked for Skip-2-It for nearly four years and understood it may have been those involved with his apprentice course who nominated him for the awards, along with support from his employer.

He said he was out of school for three years before joining the company.

‘‘I saw one of their vans one day and thought it looked cool and that it was the job I wanted to do,’’ Mann said.

As a floorer, he lays all styles of flooring with the exception of ceramic tiles. Most of his training through his apprenticeship was on the job where practical learning was complimented with a little theory.

‘‘I really enjoy the job, especially seeing the difference and transformation that comes from laying a new flooring surface,’’ he said.

He was unaware he was going to receive the award until it was announced at the awards evening in Auckland.

Now a qualified floorer, he does have the opportunity to be entered in next year’s apprentice awards at stage 3.
