The Kai for Kids inaugural Coins for Kids fundraiser last year was such a success, raising around $10,000, they are running it again this year.
Kai for Kids Charitable Trust chairperson Jo Taylor said last year 30 groups and businesses purchased a morning tea.
‘‘This year we already have 34 booked in,’’ Taylor said.
‘‘We are asking businesses and people to host a morning tea and invite their friends, customers, colleagues, family to join them.
‘‘We will be delivering the food platters on June 16, 17 and 19. The delicious morning tea platter contain chocolate brownies, scones with jam and cream and lovely club sandwiches and in return the guests make a donation to Kai for Kids,’’ she said.
Kai for Kids is a local charity providing free school lunches and there were plans to make Coins for Kai an annual event to help with ongoing fundraising needs.

The team who will prepare the platters also prepare food for over 700 pupils at 16 schools and kindergartens in Mid Canterbury every school day.
‘‘The morning tea’s a fun way to gather people together, share some delicious kai and support the most vulnerable in our community, and it’s the true meaning of Matariki in a week where we celebrate Matariki.
‘‘All of the funds raised goes towards making lunches,’’ Taylor said.
Among those ordering again this year is RMF Silva whose personal assistant Shannon Grenfell said their company likes to support local charities.
‘‘Previously we have had staff volunteer to prepare the meals at Kai for Kids. By getting the morning tea as part of Coins for Kids we can continue to support them,’’ Grenfell said.
