The sun shone, the people turned out and there was dancing in the streets as the NBS Ashburton Santa Parade rolled along Walnut Ave on Saturday.

More than 50 floats took part, and the best themed float award was won by Mania-O-Roto Scouts. The theme was ‘Unwrap the joy of Christmas’.

Organiser Carol Johns said the parade drew ‘‘huge crowds’’ and was well supported.

She said the new gathering point in the Ashburton College grounds on Belt Rd had also worked well for those in the parade, so was keen to use that again next year.

‘‘(It’s) not possible without the amazing community support for entrants and volunteer helpers,’’ she said.

Johns said she was thankful to the people and groups in the community and sponsor NBS Ashburton for their support.

‘‘(A) big thanks to NBS Ashburton for their sponsorship over the last three years, it was greatly appreciated.’’

She is now looking for a new sponsor to pick up the mantle for next year.
