It’s not too late to register for the annual community Christmas lunch, organisers say.
It takes place at the Tinwald Memorial Hall in Graham’s St, Tinwald on December 25 from 12.30pm.
Lunch co-ordinator Ann Allott said more than 140 people had registered so far since registrations were open last month.
‘‘We have got 143 at the present point in time but by Thursday, who knows,’’ she said.
Allot said since the last article in The Ashburton Courier last month organisers had been overwhelmed with offers of volunteers.
‘‘We’re very grateful for community support,’’ she said.
‘‘Everyone is welcome, but registrations are preferred because it means that we have enough seats out,’’ she said.
There were also rides to the lunch available, which also needed to be planned.
Register via the form on the Ashburton Community Christchurch Lunch Facebook page or give her a call on 308 0333.
Likewise, she would like to hear from people who have registered but were no longer going to attend – for whatever reason.
Last year 24 people did not turn up without notifying organisers, she said.
‘‘If you’ve already registered but can’t come, please let me know.’’
It could be a phone call or a message to the Facebook page.
‘‘If it’s an (older person) by themselves and they don’t turn up then I always worry about them,’’ she said.
‘‘It’s just nice to know if they are not coming so I don’t worry that something’s happened to them.’’
The lunch, which includes a main course and dessert, is open to anyone to attend, especially those who might be alone on Christmas Day.
There were about 170 (attend) last year.
Allot said paper registration forms were also available at Community House Mid Canterbury, 44 Cass St, Ashburton or Presbyterian Support at 215 Tancred St, Ashburton.
