Rockers from Mount Hutt College and Ashburton College have taken out top awards at the Smokefreerockquest regional finals in Oamaru.
It was third time a charm for Year 13 singer Harriet Brown of Mount Hutt College.
Harriet took out the top spot in the Solo/ Duo contest, and also moves on to the video submission round. She earned a $250 musical equipment voucher from the Rockshop for her school.
Harriet said performing on the stage Oamaru’s Opera House felt mystical.
‘‘It was magical getting to perform on that stage, it felt like I was haunting an old building.”
In her last year of high school, Harriet said she is sad to be leaving rock quest.
‘‘It feels tragic that it’s my last time competing, but it also feels so triumphant, like going out with a bang!”
The icing on the farewell cake for Harriet was also being awarded a Musicianship Award as well.

Meanwhile in the band sections, Ashburton College band, One Layne Bridge, made up of Year 12 students Jacob Gourdie, Liam Young and Zeke Darrell gained second place.
They earned their school a $400 musical equipment from the Rockshop and will also advance to the video submissions stage and possibly a shot at the national finalist selection.
Mount Hutt College band, Jimis Watching, made up of Year 8 student Emily Glass and Year 9 students Oscar Holmes, James Joyce and Aldrian Bulosan, took third place in the band section.
They narrowly missed the next round, but still took home a $250 musical equipment voucher from The Rockshop for Mount Hutt College and drummer Aldrian Bulosan collected a Musicianship Award.
