Allenton School pupil 11-yearold Angus Robinson decided to grow a mullet, so he could donate his hair for a wig.

‘‘But we didn’t know if it was going to be long enough, so we started a fundraiser as well,’’ Angus said.

His hair was cut and head shaved courtesy of Hayley McLeod of Tame the Mane hairdressers on Friday (pictured), for the Cancer Society’s Brave the Shave initiative. His hair was also sent away to be used for making wigs. The head shave was undertaken at senior assembly in the Allenton School hall, as Angus’s fellow pupils cheered and clapped. His goal was to raise $500, but he had reached almost ten times that amount by Friday, the tally being $4961.

Mum Liz Robinson said his mullet had been quite wellknown around town, with Angus into many sports, including soccer, rugby, basketball, cricket, and surf live-saving.

‘‘I’m very proud of myself,’’ Angus said of the amount of funds he had raised so far.

Anyone wanting to donate can do so until December 20, just go to the Angus’s Big Chop page at youcanforancer.org.nz
