New Rangitata MP James Meager has signed the lease on his new electoral office for Ashburton.
The site at 161 Burnett St, in the Somerset building, between Mainland Insurance and Minx Hair Spa, is currently being fitted out.
Meager chose not to follow in the footsteps of his predecessors Jo Luxton, Andrew Falloon and Jo Goodhew who had their electorate office at the Allenton shopping centre.
He said he was happy with the new location, being closer to social sector agencies and businesses, as well as central town retailers and hospitality premises.
‘‘It’s a brilliant spot, visibility is a key thing,’’ Meager said.
He was currently recruiting office personnel, and was aiming to open by the end of next month. He was hoping the office would be open six days per week.
