Ashburton’s $62 million Te Whare Whakatere civic centre and library building is expected to be completed Thursday next week when signage is installed.

The district council crest, alongside the words Ashburton District Council, are to feature on the building’s mesh shroud frontage (pictured). The district council crest and wording has traditionally been featured by the district council, having also been on the former district council building in Baring Square West (below).

Signtech in Christchurch is manufacturing the new signage.

Manufacturing and installation will cost about $16,500.

It is expected to take one day to install, involving a scaffold being erected a few days prior, use of a knuckle boom. Once complete, there will be a task during hours of darkness to position the light to be directed at the crest.
