The annual South Island Motorhome Show returns to Ashburton next month and is the place to be for people thinking of taking to the road in a campervan or caravan, or upgrading their existing camper.

It’s also a fun family day out.

The two-day show, a project of the Ashburton Lions Club, has plenty on offer including an assortment of new and secondhand caravans and motorhomes, related products and services, as well as food, entertainment and free health checks.

It runs at the Ashburton Showgrounds on February 10 (from 9am to 4pm), and 11 (from 9am to 3pm).

Show convener Philip Lynch said anyone who owns a motorhome or is thinking of buying would find the show beneficial. There will be an assortment of new caravans and motorhomes for sale with plenty of trade sites and private stallholders selling all things motorhome and camping related, he said. Some trades sites were still available.

‘‘We’ve got good support from the local businesses like D&E, Lifestyle Motorhomes, Ashburton Solar and then TrailLite Caravans, Jayco, Puma, Rolleston Caravans, Opus Caravans, Christchurch RV Super Centre.’’

There will be food and beverage stalls including the Lions food caravan, Indian cuisine and coffee cart, and musician Peter Nolan will entertain the crowd and social campers on Saturday from 4pm.

Lynch said there were also private sellers registered – more were welcome – as well as businesses specialising in ratten wicker furniture, eBikes, adjustable mattresses and pest control. ‘‘We have also got a raffle on Saturday and that will be drawn at 4pm when the entertainment starts,’’ he said.

Lynch said social campers will arrive Friday and set up in a designated area during the show.

On Sunday, from 10am to 2pm, there will be the balloon man and facepainting for the children, and free health checks for anyone which will include blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes tests. Just $5 will get you into the show with under 15 free and eftpos available, all proceeds go back into the community, he said.

‘‘If we can get 5000 people through over the weekend we would be rapt,’’ he said.
