The Positive Ageing Expo is set to go on March 9 at Hotel Ashburton. It is held every two years is the only expo for the elderly in Canterbury.

Age Concern Ashburton president Jan McClelland said it is the fourth expo to be held in Ashburton and will be at Hotel Ashburton for the second time.

‘‘The hotel has been a wonderful venue to have the expo,’’ Jan said. There will be around 60 site holders representing a wide variety of organisations from Ashburton and further afield.

The organisations cover a broad range of services including Eldernet, Hearing Excellence, NZ Red Cross, funeral services, Menzshed, gardening clubs, health and fitness and Citizens Advice Bureau. Jan said the expo has been really well received .

‘‘We get good support form the seniors of Ashburton. ‘‘They enjoy the opportunity having all these people together and it is sharing information and advice, keeping people informed and its keeping people safe and well.’’

Jan said it was important to have an expo for the elderly, ‘‘because we don’t know what they don’t know and there will be so many different organisations there that can provide advice and feedback.’’
Jan is grateful to their sponsors who include EA Networks, Advance Ashburton and Memory Funerals.

‘‘Because we are a voluntary organisation sponsorship is appreciated and vital,’’ she said.
The expo is a gold coin entry and there will be raffles, surprise draws and refreshments.

The Ashburton Event Centre has also given tickets to two shows which will be drawn from a prize draw on the day of the expo.

Jan said Age Concern is always looking for new members, ‘‘to support us in the community, we would love more people to join and can be any age.’’

The Positive Ageing Expo is on Thursday March 9, 10am to 2.30pm. If you would like more information about Age Concern ring: 308 6817.
