A bit of wet weather didn’t deter garden and art lovers from taking a tour of three privately owned gardens on Sunday. The fundraising event organised by the Ashburton Art Gallery Committee to raise money for a piece of public art attracted close to 200 people, armed with umbrellas and gumboots.

The first garden was Rachael and Chris Redmond’s property formally known as Brigadoon.

Chantelle O’Brien gave a cooking demonstration and people wandered around the house taking in the history. Lal Mulligan’s garden was the second stop, where people were treated to a rambling cottage garden, well stocked vege garden and a view of her portrait art collection inside.

Samantha Rose gave a floral art demonstration. The final stop was Pauline and David Mead’s extensive garden where Amelia Luxton sang while people had a hot drink and a scone before taking a stroll around the garden viewing sculptures and plenty of floral delights.
